Music to bake to Vol. 2

Once again I turn to the music when I cannot bake. After the mild success when the last post was the most read post on my blog (at least before I started announcing posts on Reddit), I found myself thinking, as I was listening to some new music, that there are more songs to stimulate one's baking atmosphere. The lack of proper baking action in the past couple days made me bit anxious.

Unfortunately, my last.fm subscription for this month has failed so no radio as of last Monday. I gotta check not only my recent plays but my archives to come up with something mindblowing.

Vaporous, the leading single from Elsaine's debut album Hybrid is a soft, mellow trip-hop downtempo track with stunning, haunting vocals provided by the duo's singer. It might be the most memorable song from the album but at least the duo has space to grow and evolve and improve. The slow beat that guides you through the whole track, it is as if it was saying:  "No need to rush when you preheat the oven and take all the stuff you need from cupboards and fridge, eh?".

Sucker Punch is a really nice movie with a totally kick-ass soundtrack. It wasn't easy to choose only one song from an album that's so consistently awesome. Anyhow, I chose this cover of a Beatles' song Tomorrow never knows, a song that plays during one of the film's most emotional scenes. Love is all and love is everyone and muffins are love too.

Morcheeba is a pretty well-known downtempo band and this recent single of theirs is really nice. I kept watching the video on the TVs in my gym in Barcelona and the song kinda stuck with me. I like the soft vocals and the melody, and the visuals are breathtaking.

Hooverphonic's chilled out version of their first ever single Inhaler is the opener of their Sit down and listen to album. You've probably already noticed that this compilation of music is focused more on the chilled music and this song doesn't stray away from the notion. What I love about this song is the strings finale, it's so different from the original version and still it's so good... Unbelievable...

This The Tumbled Sea project is quite reminiscent of Balmorhea's music but I can feel... well, some French influences in it? I'm probably talking nonsense, it just reminds me of the piano songs from Amelie, the French film.

Last two songs are the original version and a remix of Touching the Void by Banco de Gaia. The remix is called Touching the Void Smells Like Salvation and it's one of the better remixes out there. Playing these two songs in a row should be enough for most of the cupcakes out there to be baked golden :) I like the darkness of the first one that's contrasted with the mellowness of the second one. Great job making the remix.

And yeah, that's it. After the first one, where I showed how unusually epic can baking be, I hope I managed to present the mellower side of baking. Showing that baking does not have to be an exercise of power but with correct music, it can work as means of spiritual relaxation too. Cheers.
