News: Plants vs. Zombies: The Board Game

PC game title screen
Today is a special sale on Plants vs. Zombies Game of the Year edition on Steam, for only 3,40 euro to celebrate its 2nd year anniversary. Through some extensive googling and jumping through links I found out that there is a board game based on this PC game coming out later this year. That's awesome!

Even if you are not a fan of PC games, Plants vs. Zombies is a great, cute game for everyone really. You're in task of planting flowers that will defend the lawn around your house from brain-hungry zombies. The premise is silly but the gameplay is actually pretty rich. It is all about choosing the right plants to deal with the different types of zombies. For example, you can plant sunflowers to give you more solar power (an in-game currency for which you buy plants) or some peashooters, plants that shoot peas at approaching zombies, damaging their rotting bodies. Aside from peashooters, there are many other plants (e.g. all-scorching chilli peppers, deadly potato mines and even hypnotic mushrooms) that attribute to the offence and many that are good for defensive strategies (e.g. wallnuts, zombievore "chomper" plants and others) while even the zombies come in many types from tough jock-zombies to underground miner zombies... Anyway, there is a very good chance you already know the game since it is IMMENSELY popular.

Here's a cute music video that flew around the internet two years ago (in case you've lived in a cave until recently).

So what's the fuss around the game?

that's how the game looks
Honestly, there's not much fuss yet. The game has been revealed in February this year and it is set to be released sometime in fall. What we know is that the game will be for 2-4 players with 80 zombies cards and 40 plants cards. Each player will have their own lawn (there should be different boards - lawn, pool, roof and their night versions?) on which they will place the plants, their attack will be decided by rolling dice. Each round one player will act as a card dealer and from a hand of cards will choose which player will get what - the strategy will be in choosing weak zombies for your lawn and putting the tougher ones on opponents' lawns while they will be doing the same to you later. Zombies will slowly accumulate and the players must try to dispose of them before they reach the house. There is a lawnmover in each lane that serves the same purpose as in the game - kills all the zombies in the row but it can be used only once. The game will last several rounds, at the end will be counted the points for the remaining lawnmovers, most plants, least zombies and killed zombies (tougher zombies will be worth more points) and naturally the player with most points will win the game.

The price is estimated to be somewhere around $20 (link with an extra photo) and there are no expected miniatures, only cards and tiles.

Funny should mention a board game about "ZOMBIES". They are predicting that this world will be taken over by them!

Haha, the world is actually already taken over by zombies. Just look at the number of games, books, films and comics featuring zombies... They are everywhere!! :)
